To the Hills

Today’s reading is Psalm 121:

rootedchristThis is one of the greatest Psalms of the Jewish people. It was a Psalm that they would sing as they went up to Jerusalem.  They lifted up their eyes to the hills from where their help comes from.  The hills are talking about references to the temple – the people looked to the Temple to God for their help.  He was their keeper.  He was the shade of their right hand.  He will not leave them.  The Lord will keep them from all evil, he will keep their life.

Look up, friends.  Lift your eyes to the hills.  He will not leave you, He will keep you from this time forth and forevermore.

I always associate this song with singing and there is a wonderful arrangement of this Psalm my Susan Ashton that I want to share with you. I’ve always loved it, it has spoken to my heart for many, many years.  Take a moment to click on this link and listen.  I know it will speak to your heart in the same way that it has spoken to mine.
