Two Promises

Jesus promises us a lot of things in scripture.  He promises us that the Father sees us.  He promises us that we will be forgiven.  He promises us that He will be with us.  He promises us all sorts of things the Bible.

But today, I want to talk about two specific promises that He makes in John 16: 32-33:

Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.

chris-e-promiseJesus gives us two promises here this morning. First, there will be trouble.  He says that in the world there will be tribulation.  There will be trials. There will be times of trouble, there will be times of sadness and tears and worry and fear.

Lock it down there will be trouble. There will be.  It’s gonna happen.  None of us want it to be so, but it is.  In this world, there will be tribulations.  Just get ready.

But, the second promises is as hopeful as the first is discouraging.  Jesus promises us, I have overcome the world.  Take care.  Don’t worry.  Don’t fear, don’t be distressed.  Take heart.  Have hope.  Have peace, don’t be afraid.

Yes, you will have real, for real troubles.  Yes, even as a Christian, things will come that will rock your world.  Yes, there will be lots of things that will hurt.

But, it’s ok.  Take heart.  Jesus is bigger than these things.  He’s overcome them.  He’s bigger, He’s stronger, He’s better.

Don’t lose heart.  Don’t give up.  Don’t be afraid.  Yes, there will be troubles.  But Jesus has already overcome them.  Have faith.  Trust.  Hope.  Believe.

He’s got this.

Promises, Promises

SONY DSCYou can trust God today. You can.

We all know God’s promises to us. He will never leave nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6).

All things work for God for those that love God (Romans 8:28).

He will forgive us our sins (1 John 1:9).

He will be with us in the shadow of death (Psalm 23).

He wants good things for our future (Jeremiah 29:11).

We knows these things. We’ve heard these verses. We’ve heard sermons and bible studies on all these things that God has promised us. But, how do we know? How do we know that we can trust these things. How do we know?

Listen to what it says in Hebrew 6:17-18:

So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.

God made a promise to us. And God is unable to lie. He cannot lie. It’s impossible. He is who He says that He is. His words are true. And we can believe them.

So today, you can trust these promises. You can believe them. You can know them. They are true.

You are not alone.

You are loved.

You are forgiven.

God will not leave you.

You will not walk through the valley alone.

God has promised you these things. And He cannot lie. Trust today. Let go of your fears and worries. Trust.

God will not leave you. He has promised that. And He is true to His word.

God Remembers

One of the things that I’ve written about many times is that God forgets. He is a forgetful God.

What do I mean by that?

When we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins. He will forgive, and forget.

That gives me, that gives us, great confidence.

In our reading today, through, we see that God actually does remember through. Listen to what it says in Luke 1: 72-75:

to show the mercy promised to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, the oath that he swore to our father Abraham, to grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

rememberZechariah is praising God for His faithfulness, and he says this in his song of praise. He says that God is a God that remembers His promises.

He doesn’t forget. He remembers what He said that He would do. He remembers His covenants. He remembers His promises.

He remembers that He promised not to leave or forsake you.

God remembers. He remembers His word. He remembers what He said that He would do.

He has promised to deliver and save us.

And He will.

Today, rest in the knowledge that God forgets our sins. And live in the hope that God remembers His promises!
