We see Jesus telling the religious leaders that so many things testified to who He was—John the Baptist, His works, even His word. But for the religious leaders, the greatest condemnation of their lack of belief was that Moses, the very one they pointed to for truth, testified to Jesus. Moses was pointing to Jesus the entire time. Jesus was God’s plan the entire time; all of the Old Testament points to Him, His coming, and His salvation. He was there the entire time. They just missed Him. May we not do the same.

Good morning! It’s great to be with you as we continue studying John’s Gospel. I had some technical issues today, so I’m recording this on my computer instead of my phone. Hopefully, it won’t affect much, though you may see a lot more of my face!
Today, we’ll finish John 5 by reading verses 30-47. Jesus says, “I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not to do my own will, but the will of Him who sent me…”
In this passage, Jesus is speaking about testimony. He explains that His testimony isn’t valid by human standards alone. John the Baptist testified about Him, but they didn’t believe John. Jesus’ works also testify to His identity as the Son of God, yet they still don’t believe. He says that these people study the Scriptures, thinking they’ll find eternal life there, but they miss that the Scriptures point to Him.
These religious leaders are so focused on the law, quoting Scripture over and over, but they don’t understand the deeper message. Jesus tells them they lack the love of God in their hearts, and they are missing His presence right in front of them. He also says Moses will accuse them because Moses wrote about Him. They claim to follow Moses, but they fail to see how everything points to Jesus.
For us today, we must realize that we are people of the New Covenant, but we’re not a New Testament-only people. The Old Testament is our story too, and it points us to Jesus. He wasn’t God’s last resort—He was always the plan. The Old Testament, from Moses to Abraham to the prophets, all lead to Christ.
Jesus’ works testify to who He is, and for us, our lives should be a testimony as well. We don’t need to say much if our lives reflect God’s goodness and mercy. Our actions should speak loudly about our faith in Jesus.
Tomorrow, we’ll dive into John 6 and the feeding of the 5,000. Have a great day, and see you then!
