In our reading today, we see the Lord say that those who revere Him, those who ponder Him, He sees, and remembers them. On the day of judgment, they will be His special possession. He will treasure and care for them. We need to root ourselves in that reality, that He loves and He cares for us. And we need to be reminded that our safety and protection do not come from anything in this world, but it comes only from God. He is the one who protects us. Find yourself and your provision deep in God’s goodness!

Good morning. It’s good to be with you on this Thursday morning as we continue our journey through Malachi. Today, we’ll focus on just three verses, Malachi 3:16-18. Tomorrow, we’ll conclude with chapter 4, and then we’ll discuss what comes next.
In this passage, we see the fruit of the Lord’s efforts to bring His people back to Him. Despite all the warnings and calls for repentance, there are those who have heeded His words and returned to the Lord. Not everyone, but many have responded to His call and care.
Verse 17 is particularly significant: “They shall be mine, says the Lord of Hosts, my special possession on the day when I act, and I will spare them as parents spare their children who serve them.” This verse emphasizes how the Lord claims His people. We often strive to be identified as God’s people, seeking His blessings and rooting our identity in Him, which is important and valid. However, it’s equally significant to recognize that the Lord claims us as His own. He treasures us and considers us His special possession.
Do you ever stop and think about how much God loves you? Do you realize how precious you are to Him and how much He desires a relationship with you? I believe we often focus too much on trying to be better, to be faithful, or to get everything right. While self-improvement and faithfulness are important, we must also spend time delighting in the Lord and recognizing our value to Him.
The Lord has written us in His Book of Remembrance. He acknowledges those who revere Him and think on His name. He declares, “They shall be mine, my special possession on the day that I act.” Think about your favorite possessions—those things that bring you joy. For me, it might be the signed baseballs from my favorite players or cherished books. These items, though not of great material value, hold sentimental significance. Similarly, we are God’s cherished possessions, bringing Him joy and delight.
Max Lucado once said, “If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.” That’s how special you are to Him. Root your life not in the desire to make God love you or to earn His approval but in the assurance that He already loves you deeply. When we revere the Lord and live by faith and grace, He sees and acknowledges us as His own. He promises to spare us as parents spare their children who serve them. There is a clear distinction between the righteous and the wicked, the one who serves God and the one who does not.
Our security and safety are not found in the fleeting things of this world but in the steadfast love of the Lord. He assures us of His care and protection, telling us not to fear. We can rest in the peace that comes from knowing we are His prized possessions.
Tomorrow, we will conclude with Malachi chapter 4, a short chapter of just six verses. We’ll finish Malachi and then move back into the New Testament. We’ll have a brief break next week, and then we’ll resume our studies in the first full week of August. Thanks for being with us today, rooted in Christ together. We’ll see you bright and early tomorrow morning.
