Reflections with Andy – He is our Peace – Micah 5

Today, we see the famous passage in Micah, cited in Matthew to the Wise Men, telling us where Jesus was to be born. That’s a very well-known passage, but as I read, I found myself pulled more to verse five, which tells us this, “He is our peace.” I love that so much. Peace is not a concept. Peace is a person: Jesus. We do not pray or read the Bible to make God give us peace; we do these things so that we can encounter Jesus, and when we encounter and know Him, we have peace. Peace is a person. Jesus is Peace.

Good morning! It’s a pleasure to be with you on this Wednesday morning as we delve further into the book of Micah together. Yesterday, we explored some familiar verses, and today we’ll continue in that vein, with more passages you’ll recognize. Micah may not always be the first prophet that comes to mind, but some of the most well-known prophecies in Scripture can be found in his writings.

Today, let’s dive into Micah chapter 5, which contains verses that you’ll undoubtedly be familiar with. This chapter prophesies significant events, and as we read through it, you’ll likely recognize the verses immediately.

Starting with Micah chapter 5, verses 1 through 15, we encounter a series of prophecies. The opening lines depict a scene of conflict, with enemies laying siege against Israel. But amidst this turmoil, there is a promise of hope. Micah foretells the birth of a ruler from Bethlehem, a seemingly insignificant place in the grand scheme of things. This ruler’s origins are traced back to eternity, emphasizing his divine nature and eternal existence.

The passage speaks of a time of turmoil and conflict, yet amidst this chaos, there is a promise of peace. This ruler will shepherd his flock with the strength and majesty of the Lord, bringing peace to the ends of the earth. Even in the face of adversity, he will deliver his people from their enemies, ensuring their safety and security.

One particular verse stands out – verse 4 – which declares that this ruler will be our peace. It’s a powerful statement that resonates deeply, emphasizing that true peace is not merely a concept or an idea but is embodied in a person – Jesus Christ. He is the source of our peace, and through our relationship with him, we can experience true and lasting peace, even in the midst of life’s storms.

As we reflect on these verses, let’s remember that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of these prophecies. He is the ruler foretold by Micah, and through him, we find our peace and security. May we continue to walk in relationship with him, finding our peace and hope in his presence.

Thank you for joining us today. Tomorrow, we’ll explore more familiar verses as we continue our journey through Micah. Have a wonderful day, and I look forward to our time together tomorrow morning.
