Reflections with Andy – Watch What You Say – Proverbs 10

Today, in Proverbs 10, we see Solomon begin to give his wisdom. Solomon was the wise king, David’s son, who built the great temple. Solomon ruled with great wisdom. Following this path does not mean that life will always work out perfectly, but following this wisdom just makes sense. Today’s reading can basically be summed up in this. Tell the truth. Watch what you say. Our words have great power. They can stir up strife, or they can stir up love. It really is up to us. Let us watch what it is that we say!

Good morning! It’s wonderful to be with you on this chilly morning. I find myself bundled up and contemplating breaking out my heated vest – the winter is not my favorite season. I may be complaining a bit, and my wife has heard enough of it, so I’ll share my grievances with you now. However, amidst the cold, we can find wisdom to navigate these frosty days.

I’m excited to share insights from Proverbs Chapter 10 with you today. This section introduces the “Wise sayings of Solomon,” offering practical wisdom from King Solomon, renowned for his exceptional wisdom in biblical history. As the son of David, Solomon played a significant role in building the temple and was widely known for his unparalleled wisdom.

The upcoming chapters will showcase Solomon’s collection of wise sayings, filled with common-sense advice that, when applied, can significantly improve our lives. While it’s important to note that Proverbs doesn’t guarantee a trouble-free life, its teachings can certainly make our journey smoother.

Chapter 10 particularly emphasizes the importance of truthfulness. The repeated counsel is clear: tell the truth and watch your words. In a world where words are plenty, whether in person or behind a keyboard, being mindful of what we say is crucial. Social media, originally intended for networking, has evolved into a platform for performance. Let’s be cautious about what we say and how we say it, both online and offline.

Solomon’s sayings in Chapter 10 stress the significance of truthful speech. Words have power, and they can either bring forth wisdom or lead to destruction. “The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.” Truthfulness and wisdom go hand in hand.

A particular emphasis is placed on love covering offenses, and hatred stirring up strife. How we speak to one another matters, not just in our digital interactions but also in our day-to-day conversations. Let’s be careful with our words, showing love and grace in all our interactions.

In essence, Chapter 10 of Proverbs serves as a reminder: watch what you say. Let’s strive to be individuals who speak love and grace, avoiding words that stir up strife. By doing so, we contribute to a path that leads to life, not just for ourselves but for those around us.

As we journey through Proverbs, I look forward to exploring more of Solomon’s wisdom with you. Tomorrow, we’ll delve into Chapter 11. Until then, have a fantastic day!
