Reflections with Andy – Keep Watch – Mark 13: 32-37

Throughout the season of Advent, we’ll have a weekday reflection based on suggested scriptures from a great resource entitled The Common Rule. You can find a calendar of the daily readings here.

Jesus tells us to keep awake. Keep awake, keep watch. We are called to be active in these things. Keep watch, looking for His soon return. Keep watch, looking for where He will come to us each day. Keep watch, looking for the places where sin and temptation can come. Let us keep awake, allowing the Spirit to search us and be at work within us. Jesus calls us daily to faithfulness. May we keep awake. May we keep watch.

Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. In 10 short minutes, he’ll dig a little deeper into Scripture and help you better understand God’s Word.

Good morning! I appreciate your energetic and down-to-earth reflections on Mark 13:32-37. Your humor about last-minute Christmas shopping and the potential for socks as gifts adds a delightful touch to your message.

The focus on the theme of watchfulness and being alert resonates deeply with the Advent season’s emphasis on anticipation and preparation. Your reminder that no one knows the day or hour of the Lord’s return, as emphasized by Jesus in the passage, serves as a caution against becoming overly consumed by speculations about the future. Instead, the call to be watchful is about living in a state of readiness and expectation.

I appreciate your multifaceted interpretation of keeping watch. Beyond awaiting the Second Coming, it involves staying vigilant in our daily lives, recognizing how Jesus comes to us each day through various means, and being attentive to the whispers of the Holy Spirit. Your personal reflection on wearing the collar as a spiritual practice to remind you of the Lord’s work through you adds a meaningful and relatable dimension to the message.

The emphasis on keeping watch over our souls, identifying weak spots, and allowing the Holy Spirit access to our lives is a powerful exhortation. Your transparency about struggling with confidence and the need for a daily reminder that it’s not about you but about the Lord working through you is a refreshing and authentic perspective.

As Christmas approaches, your encouragement to keep watch takes on a special significance. The anticipation of celebrating the birth of Christ is an opportunity for all of us to stay spiritually awake, recognizing the profound significance of this season.

Thank you for sharing these insightful reflections. I wish you a wonderful day, and I look forward to joining you again for more reflections. Take care!
