Throughout the season of Advent, we’ll have a weekday reflection based on suggested scriptures from a great resource entitled The Common Rule. You can find a calendar of the daily readings here.
Today, we are told to wait on the Lord. We have confidence, not in ourselves, but we have confidence in the Lord. We wait upon Him, and we know that we will see His goodness here in the land of the living. Now, there are times when we will be tired of waiting. We can want to give up, give up hope. In those moments, recount to yourself when you have seen His goodness. When He has not failed you. When He has been faithful. When we remember when He was faithful in the past, we can wait, with hope, towards what He will do and is doing!
Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. In 10 short minutes, he’ll dig a little deeper into Scripture and help you better understand God’s Word.

Good morning! It’s always a pleasure to share these reflective moments with you, especially during this Advent season. Your focus on peace and the reading from Psalm 27 beautifully underscores the essence of waiting on the Lord.
Psalm 27 indeed expresses profound confidence and trust in God. The opening lines set a powerful tone: “The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?” This declaration sets the foundation for the entire psalm, emphasizing that in God, we find our ultimate security and confidence.
Your observation about the difference between confidence and arrogance is insightful. Confidence rooted in God is a humble acknowledgment of His power and faithfulness, whereas arrogance often stems from pride. It’s a reminder that our trust is in the Lord’s unfailing goodness.
The call to wait on the Lord, to be strong, and to let our hearts take courage resonates deeply. In our fast-paced world, waiting can be challenging, and impatience often tempts us to take matters into our own hands. The examples you shared, like Abraham taking action outside of God’s timing, serve as cautionary tales.
The encouragement to reflect on past experiences of God’s goodness when we feel tired of waiting is a powerful practice. Counting our blessings and remembering God’s faithfulness can help renew our strength and perspective. It’s a call to stand strong in hope, grounded in the assurance that we will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Your words are a timely reminder that waiting is not passive; it’s an active and hopeful expectation. As we wait for the Lord, we are called to remember, reflect, and stand firm in faith.
Thank you for this uplifting reflection. May your day be filled with the quiet confidence that comes from trusting in the Lord. Looking forward to our continued Advent reflections. Have a blessed day!
