This is a beautiful example of how the Bible all fits together. Hosea is reminding us of Israel’s past, how God called them out of Egypt back to the promised land in the book of Exodus, while also pointing to Jesus. In the same way that Israel fled to safety in Egypt, Jesus and the Holy Family fled to safety in Egypt. We see this beautiful connection. In Israel, we see that pointing to the work and the person of Jesus, and in Jesus, we see a fulfillment of the story of Israel. The Bible is a true gift to us, y’all, and it so beautifully fits together, pointing us all to Jesus!

Good morning! It’s wonderful to join you again as we explore the Old Testament prophecies pointing to Jesus. Today, we delved into the beautiful connections between Hosea and the fulfillment found in Matthew 2.
Let’s recap the key passages we discussed. In Hosea 11:1, the prophet speaks about Israel: “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt, I called my son.” This verse emphasizes God’s love for Israel and the historical event of calling them out of Egypt.
Now, turning to Matthew 2:13-15, we see the fulfillment of this prophecy in the life of Jesus. After the visit of the wise men, an angel appears to Joseph in a dream, instructing him to take Mary and Jesus and flee to Egypt to escape Herod’s wrath. Matthew explicitly connects this event to the prophecy in Hosea, saying, “This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: ‘Out of Egypt I called my son.'”
The parallel between Israel and Jesus in their journeys from Egypt to the promised land is striking. The Old Testament narrative of Israel finding refuge in Egypt during a time of danger, guided by Joseph, mirrors the New Testament account of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus seeking safety in Egypt.
Moreover, this not only fulfills the specific prophecy in Hosea but also echoes the broader pattern of God’s redemption and guidance throughout history. The movement from danger to safety, from Egypt to the promised land, becomes a recurring theme that finds its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus.
Your reflection on Hosea’s story and its connection to Jesus beautifully illustrates the unity of Scripture. Hosea’s experiences with Gomer serve as a profound allegory for God’s relentless love and redemption of His people, even in the face of their sins.
As you rightly pointed out, studying these connections enhances our understanding of God’s overarching plan and the intricate weaving together of the Old and New Testaments. The Bible truly is an extraordinary gift that reveals the depths of God’s wisdom and love.
I’m grateful for your insights, and I look forward to continuing this journey of exploring Old Testament prophecies and their fulfillment in Jesus. Thank you for sharing these profound connections, and I hope you have a blessed day!
