Happy Thanksgiving! Today’s Psalm repeats itself over and over again. The steadfast love of the Lord endures forever. I love that this repeats itself so often because, if we are going to be honest, there are times when we forget. We can forget what is true. We can forget who we are. We can forget who we are. We repeat the truth to ourselves, even when we don’t believe it. We repeat the truth to ourselves, even when we doubt it. It doesn’t stop being true when we struggle with it. That is why we repeat it. The steadfast love of the Lord endures forever. Today and each day. You are loved. Never forget that!

Good morning, and Happy Thanksgiving! I hope wherever you are, you’re preparing to enjoy a wonderful meal with family and friends, savoring the presence of your loved ones. Thanksgiving is a special time, and I have a story to share that captures the essence of finding unexpected family in the unlikeliest of places.
Lewis Grizzard, a Southern humorist, once shared a story about spending Thanksgiving in a rundown bar in Georgia, feeling all alone. However, in that seemingly forsaken place, someone welcomed him and prepared a Thanksgiving lunch. In that little dive bar, he found a sense of family and belonging. My prayer for you is that, wherever you are, you experience the warmth of family and friends. But if you find yourself without them, know that you are loved—by people and by a God who cares deeply for you. If you’re looking for a community, you’re always welcome at St. Matthew’s.
Today, let’s read Psalm 136, a Psalm of abundant thanksgiving entitled “God’s Work in Creation and History.” The recurring refrain, “His steadfast love endures forever,” echoes throughout the psalm, emphasizing the enduring nature of God’s love.
“I give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who alone does great wonders, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who by understanding made the heavens, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who spread out the earth above the waters, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who made the great lights, for his steadfast love endures forever; the sun to rule over the day, for his steadfast love endures forever; the moon and stars to rule over the night, for his steadfast love endures forever.”
The psalm continues to recount various instances where God’s steadfast love is evident, from the deliverance from Egypt to victories over kings. The repetition serves as a powerful reminder of God’s enduring love in both good and challenging times.
As the psalmist rejoices in God’s steadfast love, let’s internalize this truth. Sometimes, repeating a message doesn’t diminish its impact; instead, it reinforces and solidifies it within our hearts. In a world where we may forget the truths that sustain us, repetition can be a source of strength.
So, amidst your Thanksgiving festivities—whether it’s watching football, indulging in turkey and dressing, or savoring those deviled eggs—remember this truth: “The steadfast love of the Lord endures forever.” Repeat it to yourself, especially when you least feel it, because God’s love remains true, whether we feel it or not.
Today, as we give thanks, let’s remember that the steadfast love of the Lord endures forever. Happy Thanksgiving, and I hope you have a fantastic day! Join us tomorrow as we conclude our week of Thanksgiving with Psalm 150. See you in the morning!
