Signs and Wonders

Quick housekeeping note, I hope you’ve enjoyed Rooted in this fashion this week. I’m going to be out of pocket next week, so we won’t have any, but we’ll return the following week with the same format.

Today in our readings, we look at John 4: 46-54.  In this passage, Jesus tells us something that we hear from Him quite often, we’ll never believe until we see signs and wonders.  When He says this, He is talking about miracles.  People will never believe it until they see it.  So today He performs such a miracle.  A man’s child is sick and Jesus heals the child.

But when I was reading today, this is what stuck out to me.  Look at what happens in v 50 – Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started on his way.  Jesus tells him that his son will be healed, he believes and goes on his way. Later the man’s servants tell him that the boy was healed at the moment Jesus commanded it to be so.

What is amazing to me about this story is this.  The man believed before he saw the miracle.  He believed before he saw the sign and the wonder.  His faith went before the experience.  I think that this a powerful example for us. For us to see the miracle, we first have to be willing to step out in faith.

In the areas of your life where we need to see the movement of God, are we stepping out in faith?  We will not be able to experience God unless we put ourselves in a position to experience God.

Today, where in our lives do we need God?  We won’t know Him unless we are truly willing to step out seek. We’ll never hear His voice in scripture we don’t read.  We’ll never forgive others unless we are willing to try. We’ll never see Him move in service unless we are willing to serve.

To see the signs and wonders, so often we must be like this many. We must step out in faith first. Today, where in our life do we need to step out in faith to see the wonders of God?
