Today we’ll look at Titus 1: 1-5:

Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God’s elect and the knowledge of the truth that is in accordance with godliness, ² in the hope of eternal life that God, who never lies, promised before the ages began— ³ in due time he revealed his word through the proclamation with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Savior,

⁴ To Titus, my true child in the faith we share:

Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

⁵ I left you behind in Crete for this reason, so that you should put in order what remained to be done and should appoint elders in every town, as I directed you:

Ok, so we are working with quite the title for today’s Rooted, huh?  Why am I here?  I mean, if I can answer that, then there really is nothing left to answer, huh?  I mean, that’s the question.  Why am I here? 

Sadly, I don’t really have an answer for that specific question for you today. But I think today’s passage tells us something interesting.  Titus was left in Crete by Paul, and Crete was exactly where you didn’t want to be. Crete was a difficult place to be, a difficult place to do ministry. 

Titus was probably not enjoying this job given to him by Paul. 

And Paul tells him this, I left you behind for this reason.  For you to order the church in Crete.  You may not like it, you may not enjoy this reason, it may not be what you wished for, but there is a reason. There is a purpose.  It may be hard, it may not be the path that you would have chosen or would have wanted to do it. 

But there is a reason.  Be faithful in it. There is a reason God has you where He has you. There is a purpose. There is something.  Hold on even if you can’t see it. Hold on if it doesn’t make sense. Hold on.  

I don’t know what path you are walking. But God does. And He is with you.  He will not leave you. He will not forsake you. There is a reason.  

It may not make sense now, but there is a reason.  

Don’t lose hope in the midst of God. God is with you. There is a reason. 

Be faithful. That’s the reason you are here today.  That’s always the reason. Be faithful. Walk faithfully.  Love faithfully. Care faithfully. God is with you.  

That’s why you are here.
