Today we’ll look at Isaiah 64: 1-4:

O that you would tear open the heavens and come down,
    so that the mountains would quake at your presence—
² as when fire kindles brushwood
    and the fire causes water to boil—
to make your name known to your adversaries,
    so that the nations might tremble at your presence!
³ When you did awesome deeds that we did not expect,
    you came down; the mountains quaked at your presence.
⁴ From ages past no one has heard,
    no ear has perceived,
no eye has seen any God besides you,
    who works for those who wait for him.

I am very practical in my faith.  I’m a checklist kind of guy.  I like my routines, I like having a pattern, I like having a practice.  I like for things to flow as they always do.  

Which means, if I’m not careful, I may not expect God to show up.  I mean, I’ve got stuff to do. I’m not really sure that I always want God to show up.  If He will between, say, 5:43 and 5:58, that’d be great. But I don’t have a lot of time to devote to this. 

So, I really need to read this passage today. I need to expect and desire what we see today.  O that God would open the heavens and come down.  O that God would truly show Himself. O that we could know His power and His greatness. O that we could fully know God. 

That He would invade our space.  O that we could know God’s greatness. 

So, today, as you read scripture, do you expect that to happen?  Do expect God to truly show up, speak, convict, and inspire?  Or are we just marking time or checking things off our to-do list?  God has great things in store for those who know Him and are called by His name.  He wants to show us His greatness, He wants to show us His glory.  He wants us to know Him, worship Him, serve Him, and love Him. 

He wants us to know His greatness.  

Do we desire to know?  

Today, be expectant.  Open your eyes, your heart, your soul, all that you are, to all that He is.  And expect God’s greatness to show up.  And follow that greatness wherever it leads.
