Today we’ll continue with some of your favorites (or the passages you have questions about). Email (andy@stm-umc.org) or message me with any passages you’d like added or that you have a question about!
Today we are looking at Philippians 4: 4-8:
4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Yesterday we looked at verses 4-7. Today we’ll take a deeper look at verse 8.
Verse 8 is one of my favorite verses in the Bible, and I believe one of the more important. Think on these things. What is good, noble, pure, good, anything worthy of praise, think on these things.
What occupies your mind? What fills your mind? What occupies your thoughts and your time? Are you thinking about what is good, noble, and pure? Are you filling your thoughts with the good things, the things of God, the things of grace and mercy, the things that point us to Jesus?
Or are you thinking about the things of hatred or division? The things of this world? The things of lust and greed and hatred?
Where is your mind today? What are you thinking about? What is it that is constantly on your mind? Are you thinking about what is good, what brings life, what brings peace?
Or are you thinking about what is destructive?
As we live in a world full of imagine and social media and memes, our mind is in information overload. Our eyes are never not seeing and our mind is never not thinking.
Where is your mind today?
Where is your mind today?
For us as Christians, that is a huge, huge thing. If we are full of rage and anger, where is our mind? Focus on what is good and pure. What is from God. And think on these things.
