Today we are looking at Romans 8:28:
28 We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.
It was a running joke at one of my former churches that whatever verse I was reading at the time was my favorite verse. Well, for real, this is my favorite verse. It is such a powerful, beautiful reminder of God’s goodness.
All things together for good for those who love God. All things. Let me unpack what this means to me. This doesn’t mean that all things are good. What this means is that God is a work in all things and is directing all things to good.
The power of God is not that He stops bad things from happening. The power of God is that there is not a single thing that God can’t redeem and can’t use for good. My life is a testament to that, with my mom’s murder being a terrible tragedy when I was two. But, if I had not been raised by my grandparents, I would not have had the family, the school, the church, or the life that God has blessed with me.
Her murder was a terrible tragedy.
But God worked it for good. That’s what this verse means. Not all things are good. But God is at work in all things, bring them to good. We can trust in that; we can hope in that. God is good. He brings all things to good.
We can trust, no matter what.
