Today we’ll continue with some of your favorites (or the passages you have questions about). Email (andy@stm-umc.org) or message me with any passages you’d like added or that you have a question about!
Today we are looking at Isaiah 40: 29-31:
29 He gives power to the faint
and strengthens the powerless.
30 Even youths will faint and be weary,
and the young will fall exhausted,
31 but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
The Bible is full of just beautiful language. I mean, you can take the entire religious aspect out of scripture, and it is about as beautiful as any book in the English language. Its poetry, passion, and imagery is as powerful as anything you could ever read.
Today’s “favorite” is such as passage to me. I just think the words on the paper are beautiful, just beautiful. Let’s remember the context of what is happening in this passage. In Chapter 39, Isaiah tells the King that judgment is coming. His sons will be carried off. It will not be fun. It’s going to be very tough.
Chapter 40 is a wonderful chapter of comfort. God will take care of His people, no matter how hard or difficult it may be. God has them. In spite of the pain and loss that is coming, God will save and restore His people in time.
We see that word today. Salvation will not come from the young warriors, they will be faint and weary. But those who wait up the Lord, they will renew their strength. They will be saved; they will be restored. They will know life.
We wait upon the Lord and His time and His schedule. Our salvation will not come the hand of a human; it will not come from power or strength or any earthly force. Our salvation will come from the hand of God. He will save us. He will renew us. He will restore us.
We will be saved, and we will make it through whatever come what may. We will.
But we must wait on the Lord. We must trust in Him, His plan, His time, His power. Wait, trust, and have faith. God will not fail us.
We will mount up on eagles’ wings. We will be saved.
