Today we are looking at Psalm 8:
1 O Lord, our Sovereign,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouths of babes and infants
you have founded a bulwark because of your foes,
to silence the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars that you have established;
4 what are humans that you are mindful of them,
Mortals that you care for them?
5 Yet you have made them a little lower than God
and crowned them with glory and honor.
6 You have given them dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under their feet,
7 all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
9 O Lord, our Sovereign,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Today’s Psalm is such a wonderful passage because it shows us two things. It shows us who God is. And it shows us who you are. It shows us who we are all are.
First, we see who God is. Verses 1-3 show us the vastness of God, the goodness of God, and the power of God. He is majestic. He is beautiful. He is powerful. He is good. He is God. We see the wonder and power of His name and His goodness. He made all, He created all, and He is good. It is good.
Stop for just a moment and truly consider the goodness of God. He is a good, good God. He is a good Father. All of creation proclaims His goodness and His mercy. Consider His power and His goodness.
And now read verse 4. What are we that God is mindful of us? This is a vast universe. So big. SO great. So much in all of creation. Yet, we see today that God is mindful of us. The great, vast, amazing God of the universe pays attention to you, to me. And not just that He is mindful of us, but….
He has set us a little lower than angels. He has crowned us with glory. He is given us dominion and responsibility. He loves us. He cares for us. And he has made us each, each wonderful.
That’s who you are today. You are a little lower than angels. You are crowned with glory. You are beautiful. You are precious in His sight. You are loved.
You are loved.
You are loved.
Never forget that. Never forget who you are. You are crowned with God by an amazing God. Know who He is, yes. But know who YOU are. You are loved. Remember that.
