June 27, 2022 – Ecclesiastes 10: 1-7 – A Wise Life

Today we will read Ecclesiastes 10: 1-7:

1 Dead flies make the perfumer’s ointment give off a foul odor;
    so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.
2 The heart of the wise inclines to the right,
    but the heart of a fool to the left.
3 Even when fools walk on the road, they lack sense
    and show to everyone that they are fools.
4 If the anger of the ruler rises against you, do not leave your post,
    for calmness will undo great offenses.

5 There is an evil that I have seen under the sun, as great an error as if it proceeded from the ruler: 6 folly is set in many high places, and the rich sit in a low place. 7 I have seen slaves on horseback and princes walking on the ground like slaves.

Today’s passage reads and feels a lot like Proverbs.  Just little jewels of wisdom that are simple, yet profound, that speaks to the simple things (and truths) of life.

A little folly destroys much.

Sometimes folks have not the sense to realize they don’t have sense.  That’s why we all need friends who will point out to us when we don’t have sense.

Calmness will undo a great offense – I love this one.

Good words to hear today, seek to be wise. Seek to be calm and controlled. Seek to live, not with out of control passions, but live a self-controlled, humble life.  Not live for what we want to do, but live for that which is right, which serves others, serves God, and seeks to do the right thing.

Today, as you go about your day, ask the Holy Spirit, over and over again, to give you wisdom.  James tells us that if lack wisdom, ask, and we will receive.  Today, seek that wisdom. Seek to live a wise, discerning life.  Lean on the power of the Holy Spirit and God will give you what you need. In doing that, you will have what you need to live that wise life.

Live with it. And you will find the richness and fullness of a wise life
