November 16, 2021 – Mark 6: 6-13 – Go

Today we are reading from Mark 6: 6-13:

Then he went about among the villages teaching. 7 He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. 8 He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; 9 but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. 10 He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. 11 If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.” 12 So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. 13 They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.

Today we see Jesus give His followers a simple command. Go.  They are to go into the world, into the villages, into all the places around, and to work against evil.  Heal, preach, pray, and bring the light of Christ into all these places.

That is a word for us as Christians, those who follow Jesus, today. Go.  Go into all the world, taking the Good News of Jesus, taking the power of Jesus, with us. Our call is to go.  Not to say where we are.  Not to make them come to us. But for us to go to them.

Now we see that not everyone will receive this.  Jesus tells us that folks will reject us and turn us away and turn us down. That’s ok.  Just like our Jesus, our love for them should not be based upon that, but our love for them should be based on the fact that He loves them and He came to save them.

We have the call to take that message and that Good News into the world today. So, today, go.  Go take the love of Jesus with you, into your work, into your school, to the ball field, no matter where you find yourself today.

Go.  Our faith is not a Sunday only thing.  It is an every day thing, an each moment of our lives thing.  God into His world, with His good news, for all the world to hear.

So that all the world may believe.  Go.
