Today we are reading from Mark 4: 21-25:
21 He said to them, “Is a lamp brought in to be put under the bushel basket, or under the bed, and not on the lampstand? 22 For there is nothing hidden, except to be disclosed; nor is anything secret, except to come to light. 23 Let anyone with ears to hear listen!” 24 And he said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear; the measure you give will be the measure you get, and still more will be given you. 25 For to those who have, more will be given; and from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away.”
Today we see Jesus giving us some words on how we should live our lives. We should use what it is that God has given us. Don’t hide your lamp under a bushel. Let it shine. The measure you hear, the more you will be given.
If you’ve been given, use it, and you will have more. If there is none there, no more will be given. God calls us to use what we have for His glory and in doing that, it will be for our own good.
I’ve heard it put like this when it comes to talents or abilities, use it or lose it. I think there’s something to that. If God has given us an ability or a gift, something that we can use. Use it! Don’t hide it! If there is an ability that you have, you have it for a purpose. Never forget that. Never take it for granted.
Today is a gift. Your abilities are a gift. Your relationships are a gift. It is all a gift from God, all good gifts are from God (James 1:17). Use it today, don’t lose it today. Let’s use everything that God had given us today. Let that light shine, for all the world to see.
