1 Corinthians 12: 12-26 – The Spirit

This week in our Rooted in Christ, we are going to continue in a path of that we started last week, look at finding our role in the church.  Last week we talk about the vine and branches.  This week we will be looking at 1 Corinthians 12: 12-26.  We will be talking about spiritual gifts.

But first, I want to talk about the means by which we receive these gifts, the Holy Spirit.  It is the Spirit that makes possible the gifts that we have.  It is the Spirit that is at work in lives, drawing us closer to God, saving us, and then growing us.  It is the Spirit that is the source of our gifts and it is the Spirit that works for our good.

If we have any faith at all, that faith comes through the Holy Spirit.  The Spirit draws us to God, convicts us of our sin, and saves us. The bible is clear, we can’t even confess Jesus Christ as Lord apart from the Holy Spirit. So, you believe in Jesus, you have the Spirit.

We will see in our passage this week that it is also the Spirit that equips us to be faithful.  It is the Spirit that works in us and through us to build up Christ’s Body, the church.

You have Spirit at work in you and within you today. You are a Christian, based off the work of that same Spirit. This week we will look deeper at what it is the Spirit does in our lives.
