This week we are starting a series in worship here at St. Matthew’s entitled Running the Race. We will be looking at Hebrews 12: 1-3 as our base text that we jump from as we consider different passages. Today we are going to look at the world behind the text of this passage.
We all need encouragement. I think one of the things that 2020 has done is that it has made us weary. We are all tired, even if we are not really physically tired. We are mentally tired. We are emotionally tired. We are physically tired. We are stressed and we are given out.
And I think that’s why it’s such a great thing to remember what this text has taught us.
Remember we are not alone. We aren’t the first to head down this path. We have a mighty cloud of witnesses who have done this before us. Never forget that. Never forget that we aren’t alone. Others have gone before and cheer us on.
Sin weighs us down. It is heavy. It keeps us from walking, from running, from being faithful. Cast it aside, Our sin doesn’t determine us or stop us. Our sin is not the end of destiny. God is. Never forget.
Look to Jesus. He is our example. Study Him. Follow Him. Live in Him. He is our life. No one, no thing else. Jesus.
Run. Be faithful. You got this. Run today. You are loved and you are cheered for. Run today. You’ve got it.
