Final Thoughts on 1 John

Today is our final reading on 1 John. I hope you’ve enjoyed it.  I know it’s been a lot of fun for me to study (and preach on) this summer.  Maybe when we remember the summer of 2020, we’ll think upon our time in 1 John.

So, as we think back upon it, what do I want you to remember from our time together in 1 John.

First, remember that we confess our sins, God will forgive us.  Never forget that.  That is key, even if you remember nothing else from our time together in this book.  We can be, and we can know forgiveness.

Second, remember that if our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts and He still loves us.  He loves us more than we judge ourselves.  God’s grace is greater than all our sins and God’s mercy is greater than all our sins. God has us and God has this.

Remember that God’s perfect love casts out all fear.  You don’t have to be afraid of anything. God has it and God has you.

But I think the main thing we need to remember is that we are to abide in Jesus. That is what it all comes down to, walking with Jesus. Each day of our lives. Walking with Him, staying in Him, living in Him. Everything we do, everything we know, all that matters, is that we walk with Jesus.  If we walk with Him, everything else will work out.

So, moving forward throughout the rest of this year, let’s focus on that. Walk with Jesus. Abide in Jesus.  Live in Jesus. And He will take of the rest. Let’s focus on living out that truth today and each day.
