1 John 2: 18-29 – The World in Front of the Text, Part Two

rootedchristThis week in our Rooted in Christ we are going to be looking deeper at 1 John 2: 18-29.  Today we’ll look at the World in Front of the Text for verses 26-29.

As we mentioned in the World of the Text of this passage if you are in Jesus, you have access to the Holy Spirit.  You have direct access to the Father.  You have as much access to God as me or any other preacher.  You don’t need me to grow your faith.  I hope I can help and provide for you resources, tools, and motivations, but your faith is your faith.

Think, pray, and listen for yourself.  But here’s the thing.  It’s your faith, no one else’s.  That means you (and I) have to do the hard work of growing ourselves.  No one can make us read the Bible, or pray, or serve, or worship, or any of these things that give us grace.  You and I have the responsibility of testing the spirits, listening for truth, and doing the hard work of growing our faith for ourselves.

But, listen to the truth of what we are told today, we have access to the Holy Spirit who will lead and guide us, will sanctify us, and will lead us to all truth.  Seek after God’s spirit and will know.  Faithfully walk where He is leading you.  You will know life and truth through the Spirit.  You will know Jesus.

It’s our responsibility to grow our faith. But, through the Spirit, we can and we will.
