Today’s reading is James 4: 11-17
Today we see another round of James warning us to be humble. But he makes this call to humility in two ways. First, we see him tell us not to judge others. Those of us (meaning all of us) that are weak and imperfect, we should understand that other people are in the same position that we are. No one is perfect. No one has it all figured out. Everyone has human frailty to them. So, because of that, we should understand our weaknesses and be graceful to others. Don’t judge them, because when we do that, we will find ourselves lacking. Be humble.
Secondly, we are told don’t go boasting about tomorrow. Tomorrow is not ours to determine. That is God’s call and God’s domain. Not ours. So, don’t boast in tomorrow. Be humble. Follow God. Let’s not make ourselves the kings and queens of the future. That is God’s business. Let’s leave it to him. Be humble.
