Be Thankful

rootedchristOver the next few weeks in our Rooted in Christ Study, we’ll be looking at some of the favorite passages from our staff at St. Matthew’s UMC. These are some of the parts of the Bible to mean to most to our staff.

Today’s reading is the book of Philemon.

Philemon is a short and interesting book of the Bible.  It speaks to me about the power of conversion and the effect that being a Christian can have upon a person.  It also talks about the power of encouragement in the Christian life and about how we all need encouragement.  The passage of this book that I’ve always liked has been verse 6, when we realize all that we have to be thankful for in Jesus, our desire to share our faith increases.  When we are able to truly know just how great God’s grace is, how much we are loved, how great His great love us for us, we want to tell more and more folks about it.

When we understand all that we have to be thankful for, we want to share that good news more and more and more.

Today, especially on this Thanksgiving Day, we have so very much to be thankful for. We are all blessed beyond measure. When we realize all that we have to be thankful for, we can’t wait to share it. Today, be thankful. And may that thankfulness be our motivation for our faithfulness.
