How to Become a Christian

Today’s reading is Romans 10: 5-21

rootedchristAs I’ve mentioned before Romans is so full of verses that are so important to our faith.  Today’s passage has one of those passages, Romans 10:9.  Let me give it to you again, for you to see:

“because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

That’s it. That’s the list. That’s what you have to do to be a Christian.  Nothing more, nothing less.  If you believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead if you really and truly believe that with all that you, with every part of your being, and you confess that belief with your mouth, you shall be saved. That’s it. That’s what it takes.

But, let’s take a moment to look at that.  If you believe that Jesus is Lord.  This is key.  Jesus is Lord.  Not just of the universe, but of your own life.  Jesus is Lord of all. Everything.  Jesus is Lord.

Today, is Jesus Lord of your life? Every area of your life?  Your words?  Your actions?  Your resources?  Your schedule?  Everything?  Saying Jesus is Lord is a HUGE thing.

Raised from death. Our faith hinges upon the resurrection. That is the pivot of everything.  In this moment sin and death were forever defeated.  Do you believe that?  Do you really, truly believe it?

Confess with your mouth.  Make your faith not just a private thing, but a public thing. Confess it. Tell others about it.  Proclaim it for all to know.  Become part of a body of faith.

These things are how you become a Christian.  It is my hope for everyone reading this that is a decision that you have made.
