Today’s reading is Romans 3: 21-31
We see this radical equality today. We see that all stand condemned, for all have fallen short of the glory of God. All have. I have. You have. God shows no partiality. Everyone has fallen short of the glory of God. There is an equality in that. One of my favorite songs we used to sing in a previous church said – we all stand equal at the foot of the cross.
In the same way, all can be atoned for by the blood Jesus. As all stand condemned in their sin, all can be saved, not by their works but by faith, by belief in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. So many in Paul’s day see religion as an outward thing and an outward expression. Paul shows us that our outward expressions are always lacking, but salvation is possible. Not through anything we do, but through what Jesus has done and through faith in that saving act.
