Today’s reading is John 14: 15-31

We are reminded today by Jesus that we have someone on our side, that we have an “advocate.”  We have the Holy Spirit who is for us.  The Spirit will help us; He will intercede for us, He will empower us, He will remind us of all that Jesus has said and has done for us.  We are not orphaned, as the text says.  Someone is always for us.

It is amazing to think about the Spirit, to know that the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives within us.  The same Spirit that led the authors of Scripture is the same Spirit that will speak to us when we read Scripture.  The same Spirit that spoke through the prophets is the same Spirit that speaks to us now.  So yes, Jesus did not leave us orphaned or without power, but in fact, He gave us the greatest gift that He could have possibly have given us. He has given us the Holy Spirit, and through that Spirit, we can do more than we ever thought possible.

Today, know that you are not alone.  The Spirit is with you.  And through that Spirit, you can know the very power of God!
