Speaking and Listening

Today’s reading is Acts 18: 24-28

rootedchristToday I think we see the beauty of relationships, but also the risk therein.  Look at Apollos, Pricillia, and Aquila.  Apollos was a gifted speaker. We see that from the scripture this morning, as well as other scriptures.  He was a gifted communicator; he had a natural gift. But, he didn’t know everything, he wasn’t perfect.  I mean, who is.  So Pricilla and Aquila pull him aside and teach him the scriptures more fully.  This makes him an even greater communicator of the Gospel. The church grows, and God is glorified through all of this.

Here’s the risk. What if Apollos rejects them.  I mean, who are they to tell him how to preach and how do live out his calling? What good can they possibly do?  Why should he listen to them?  But, he did. And look what happened.  Apollos had to be humble enough to listen. They had to be brave enough to speak.

Today, who in your life do you need to be humble enough to listen to?  Today, who in your life do you need to be brave enough to speak truth to?
