Our Best Option

Today’s reading is Acts 12: 1-5

rootedchristWell, now the church is putting its money where its mouth is.  Sure has faced trouble before. But today, James is killed.  James was one of Jesus’ inner most circle. It was always Peter, James, and John.  James and John were the “sons of thunder.”  He was as close to Jesus as anyone.  And now, he was killed.  Trouble comes.  Even being super close to Jesus isn’t enough to always be a protective hedge from everything that can happen.  Look at Job.  Look at John the Baptist.  Look now at James.  So, we see one of the leaders was killed.  We see Peter imprisoned.  And the church prayed.

That may seem like nothing, just praying.  But the church understood something that we often take for granted.  Prayer is not our last option in times of trouble; it is our best option and should be our first option.  Don’t ever think, “All I can do is pray.”  Remember the best thing we can always do, always do is just that. Pray!
