Today’s reading is Luke 13: 31-35
Today’s reading is, to me, one of the most heartbreaking in all of scripture. When I read this passage, I can almost hear Jesus heart being torn apart. How He longed to love and save His people. How He has longed to show them a better way. How He has longers to point them to the heart of the law, of scripture, of God’s truth. How has He longed to see them freed from the things that have kept them in chains.
But they would not let Him. And that breaks His heart. And now their choices will have consequences.
When I read that, I think about the ways that my choices break Jesus’ heart. Where in my life do I grieve Him? Where in my life do I turn away? Where in my life do I choose myself, my pride, my stuff, my wants, my whatever over whatever it is that Jesus desires.
Today, we see Jesus’ heart break. May we be aware of the places in our lives where we can make the same mistake that they did.
