Today’s reading is Luke 10: 1-20
Back in chapter 9 we saw Jesus sent out the Twelve to do ministry, to cast out demons, heal the sick, and bring restoration in His name. Today we see that number expanded. We see a lot of that in Luke. Jesus is always casting a wider net. His family, His kingdom is made up all that will love and serve Him. We see Him send out the Seventy next to do the same type of ministry that the Twelve did. They go out and report back so many deeds of power that they did. They rejoice in this. But Jesus tells them that is not the reason that they should rejoice. They should rejoice because their name is in the book of life.
Out joy comes not from the things that we do for Jesus. Our joy comes from the fact that we are loved by Jesus. Please never think your worth comes from what you “do” for Jesus. That is not what makes you have worth. That is not what makes you precious in His sight. What makes you precious in His sight is that you are His. Your worth is not in what you do. Your worth is in who you are.
