Today’s reading is Luke 1: 67-80
One of the things that we see throughout the New Testament is how it is not disconnected from the Old. Here we see the Spirit come upon Zachariah and he gives voice to what God has already done through the prophets of old. We see that Jesus is not disconnected from what has happened, but that He is fully part of the unfolding of God’s plan of redemption. Sometimes we are tempted to think that Jesus was God’s last hope for the salvation of humans, instead of seeing Him for what He is, God’s plan all along. He was the one that prophesied about in Genesis 3, He was the one that Isaiah pointed to, He was the one that so many Psalms gave worship to.
In the birth, and then in the life of John the Baptist, we see that the road has been set for Jesus’ coming.
Remember, Jesus is never God’s last plan; He was always working. Just as He is always working within our lives. Never give up on God’s plan of redemption. Never give up.
