Delight

What do you delight in, in life?  What is it, in life, that is truly beautiful?  That is truly good?  That truly gives life and purpose?  Our world spins ever so quickly, it seems doesn’t it?  There needs to be something in life, something good, something noble, something pure, that gives our life purpose, direction, and goodness.

What is that “thing” for you?  what gives you that purpose?  What gives you that goodness?  What is it, that is truly good, that seeps down into us?

What is filling in the cracks of your life?  What is nourishing your life right now?  What is it that is giving you purpose and joy and delight?

Is it popularity?  Is it the news?  Is it money?  It is your job?  Is your even your family?  What is your Ulitmate delight and joy?

Think about that now.  Listen to what we hear today in Psalm 1: 1-3:

1 Happy are they who have not walked in the counsel of the wicked, *
nor lingered in the way of sinners,
nor sat in the seats of the scornful!
2 Their delight is in the law of the LORD, *
and they meditate on his law day and night.
3 They are like trees planted by streams of water,
bearing fruit in due season, with leaves that do not wither; *
everything they do shall prosper.

book-1936547_1920Their delight is in the law of the Lord.  In God’s law, in God’s truth, in God’s Word, they find their truth.  They find their purpose.  They find their very life.

In that which is good and life-giving, they find the very thing that defines their life.  And then all the pieces of their life fit together.

When they first delight in God’s Law.

Today, where is your delight?  Is it in what is good, noble, pure, and true?  Or is it somewhere or someplace else?  Is it in someone else?

Those that delight in the law of the Lord, they find their joy ongoing.

Today, in what do we delight?
