Something to Remember

Do you ever get distressed about life?  About the circumstances of where things are nowadays?  Do you worry about the future, the world, where things are headed?  I think everyone, especially those of us with kids worry about the world that we are leaving to them.  When you feel overwhelmed by this, remember the words from Psalm 47: 7-10:

7For God is King of all the earth;
sing praises with all your skill.
8God reigns over the nations;
God sits upon his holy throne.
9The nobles of the peoples have gathered together
with the people of the God of Abraham.
10The rulers of the earth belong to God,
and he is highly exalted.

urlGod is King of the earth.  He reigns over all the nations.  The rulers of the earth belong to God.

I really believe that.  I really do.  God is king, no matter what.  So don’t be afraid.  Don’t be worried.  Don’t be scared.  God is king.  He really is.  As Christians, that’s one of the charters of our belief.  God is king.

Now, this isn’t some naiveté, or a call for us as Christians to not be involved in the world.  Far from it.  This Psalm was most likely written by David, who was an earthly king.  Christians are always called to make the world a better place. That’s part of our mission as being salt and light, to truly make the world better for all.

But that said, no matter what happens upon the world, God is still king.  Remember that.  That is what the scriptures teach.  God is king.  Don’t worry.  He is king over all earthly kings. And in end, ever knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord.

That will happen.

And part of our call now as Christians is to live with the boldness and courage that the reality that we know is coming is real.  We need to live with that confidence and assurance and hope that Jesus is King.

Remember that.  Always remember that.  All will be well.  Do not fear.  As the great old hymn “This is my Father’s World” reminds us:

This is my Father’s world.
O let me ne’er forget
that though the wrong seems oft so strong,
God is the ruler yet.
This is my Father’s world:
why should my heart be sad?
The Lord is King; let the heavens ring!
God reigns; let the earth be glad!

Remember this.  This is our Father’s world.  Do not fear.
