Walking Through 1 John: Day 7

Today we are going to look at another one of those great passages from 1 John, 1 John 2: 29-3: 3:

29 If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who does right has been born of him. 1 See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. 3 And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

To me, 3:1 is just one of those great verses of scripture.  It’s one that keeps coming out in my life, in my preaching and teaching, in all that I do.  What great love the Father has given us, that we should be called the children of God!

Wow!  God has given His great love to you.  You are His child.  You are His beloved.  And He has given His love to you.  I know it’s semantics and language, but you need to understand the reality of a gift.  It is not something that you earn.

It’s something that is given.  It’s something that is not even deserved.  It’s given out of the goodness of the giver.  And God’s goodness says this.

You are my beloved child.

Hear that today.  Marinate in that today.

You are God’s beloved child.  Nothing can change that.  Because that distinction is not given because of what you’ve done.  It’s given because of what God has done.

It’s His gift.  Never forget that.
